Attilio holds a M.Sc. (equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy and a Ph.D. in “Energy Systems and Environment” from Università degli Studi di Lecce, Italy.
His areas of interest are energy planning and hydrogen-energy infrastructure development.
He is actively involved in the development of novel tools and methods for integrated energy-environmental-economic assessment and provides independent techno-economical advising services to public and private decision-makers in the broader energy arena.
A credited energy planner, Attilio is the author of several scientific papers and co-author of a book on integrated waste management. His works have been presented at several international conferences and he’s been recently appointed session chairman at several important international events of the hydrogen-energy community (Hypothesis VI, IHEC 2005, Italian Hydrogen Days at UNEP-WED 2005).
He’s been the recipient of a Rotary International fellowship for the Academic Year 2004-05 spent as a visiting researcher in the Hydrogen Pathways Program at University of California, Davis. Whilst in Davis he developed a graduate-level course on Integrated Resource Planning (IRP Class).
Starting in 2007 Attilio is Associate Director of the Center for Energy Research at Massey University (MUCER) in New Zealand, a center with extensive expertise in energy and climate change mitigation policies, renewable energy and energy efficiency
Attilio also works extensively as an international hydrogen-energy consultant.
He acted as a primary consultant to Hydro Tasmania and the Department of Energy, Infrastructure and Resources of Tasmania, Australia for the development of a State-wide hydrogen-energy infrastructure for the island.
Attilio is currently managing a collaborative research project between CSIRO (the scientific research organization of the Commonwealth Government of Australia) and the University of Wollongong (Australia) aimed at developing a technology roadmap for hydrogen delivery in Australia.
